Game Guides & Rules

Every daily challenge is the same for every player on the same date and changes at midnight on your device's clock. Scores are saved in your browser; the leaderboard games post your best runs to the global boards.

Testament Toss-Up

Sort
  • How to play: A book title appears. Toss it onto the Old Testament or New Testament cover before the timer runs out.
  • Modes: Classic is an endless run through all 66 books. 60s Blitz gives you one minute on the clock, and a wrong answer takes 3 seconds off it. Section Sort names a book and a section (such as Pentateuch or Minor Prophets): answer Yes if the book belongs there, No if not. Daily is 20 books. Missed replays the books you got wrong today.
  • Scoring: 100 points per correct answer, plus a speed bonus of up to 100 (it grows a little each level) and a streak bonus of 10 points per answer in your current run of correct answers (up to 200). Blitz pays 100 plus the streak bonus, with no speed bonus.
  • Lives and timer: Three strikes end the run; a wrong answer or a timeout is a strike. The timer is 10, 5 or 2 seconds (Easy, Normal, Hard in Settings), and every 5 correct answers raise your level and take half a second off, down to 1 second. Blitz has no strikes, only the 60-second clock.
  • Daily: 20 books, one attempt a day. Starting it uses the day's attempt.
  • Leaderboard and quests: Classic (with the Daily), 60s Blitz and Section Sort each have their own board. The Daily counts for the Daily Quest Hub. Missed practice runs aren't saved as high scores.

Canon or Not

Trivia
  • How to play: A title appears: sometimes one of the 66 books of the Bible, sometimes an apocryphal, historical or invented one. Stamp it Canon or Not Canon.
  • Modes: Classic, 60s Blitz (a wrong stamp takes 3 seconds off the clock) and Daily (20 titles, about half of them real).
  • Scoring: 100 points per correct verdict, plus a speed bonus of up to 110 (growing each level) and 12 points for every level above 1. At the end of a run you get 300 for every full chain of 22 correct in a row (up to 10 chains), 20 per answer in your best streak (up to 50) and 40 per level reached above 1. Blitz pays 100 plus 10 per answer in your streak.
  • Lives and timer: Three wrong stamps end the run. The timer is 10, 5 or 2 seconds (Easy, Normal, Hard), and every 5 correct answers raise your level and take a quarter second off, down to 1 second.
  • Daily: 20 titles, one attempt a day.
  • Leaderboard and quests: Classic (with the Daily) and 60s Blitz each have a board. The Daily counts for the Daily Quest Hub.

Order the Books

Order
  • How to play: Books are dealt one at a time. Tap the gap on the shelf where each one belongs. A wrong tap shows you the right gap.
  • Campaign: 11 sections, from The Law to Letters & Revelation. Each has four levels: Study & Shelve (place 2 or 3 books on a nearly full shelf), Half Shelf (place half the section), Empty Shelf (the whole section, 15 seconds per book) and the Link Boss (the section plus its neighbours' edge books, 10 seconds per book). Half Shelf opens after Study, Empty Shelf after Half Shelf, and the Boss is open from the start. Beating a Boss unlocks the next section.
  • Marathons: Clear all Old Testament bosses for the OT Marathon (39 books) and all New Testament bosses for the NT Marathon (27 books). Finish both for the Grand Library: all 66 on one shelf. Marathons are untimed and your hearts refill at each section.
  • Scoring: 100 points per correct placement, 150 from the 4th in a row and 200 from the 7th. Timed levels add 2 points for every second left. A Peek (👁) shows the finished shelf for 2.5 seconds and costs 25 points.
  • Stars: 3 stars for no hearts lost and no peeks, 2 for losing up to two hearts, otherwise 1.
  • Lives and timer: 3 hearts. Timed levels have one countdown for the whole shelf. Running out of hearts or time ends the run. Practice Mode in Settings gives unlimited hearts and free peeks, but saves no scores or stars.
  • Daily Shelf: 10 books from across the whole Bible, 12 seconds per book, one attempt a day. Starting it uses the day's attempt. Your daily streak grows each day you clear the shelf.
  • Leaderboard and quests: Campaign, Daily Shelf and Marathon each have a board. Only finished (won) runs are saved as high scores. The Daily Shelf counts for the Daily Quest Hub.

Book Hunt

Find
  • How to play: The bookcase holds all 66 books in order, one spine each. Each round names a book for you to find.
  • Shelf Sprint: The spines are labelled. Tap the named book before the timer runs out. 100 points plus a speed bonus of up to 120 (growing each level) and 12 per level above 1. A wrong spine costs a heart, but you keep hunting for the same book.
  • Hot & Cold: The spines are blank and there's no timer. Each tap reveals a book and tells you whether to look earlier or later. You have 9 taps. A first-tap find is worth 450 (plus 30 per level above 1), and each extra tap costs 60, down to 60. Running out of taps costs a heart.
  • Shelf Sniper: Only landmark books are labelled. You get one tap. Exactly right is a bullseye: 300 (plus 15 per level above 1). One book off scores 200. Two or three off scores 100 and four to six off scores 50, but neither counts as a find. Seven or more off costs a heart.
  • Lives and timer: 3 hearts. A timeout in Sprint or Sniper costs a heart. The timer is 12, 8 or 5 seconds (Easy, Normal, Hard), and every 5 finds raise your level and take a quarter second off, down to 2 seconds. At the end of a run you get 300 for every chain of 22 finds in a row, 20 per find in your best streak and 40 per level reached above 1.
  • Daily Hunt: 20 books with Shelf Sprint rules, one attempt a day. Missed replays the books you missed today.
  • Leaderboard and quests: Shelf Sprint, Hot & Cold and Shelf Sniper each have their own board, and the Daily Hunt counts toward Shelf Sprint. Missed practice runs aren't saved. The Daily Hunt counts for the Daily Quest Hub.

Book Number Blitz

Numbers
  • How to play: A book name appears with four numbers. Pick its place in the Bible, from Genesis (1) to Revelation (66).
  • Modes: Start runs through all 66 books in random order, then starts a new cycle, until you run out of lives. Daily is 20 books. Missed replays the books you missed today.
  • Scoring: 100 points per correct answer plus a speed bonus of up to 100, rising to 172 at level 10.
  • Lives and timer: 3 lives; a wrong answer or a timeout costs one. The timer is 10, 5 or 2 seconds (Easy, Normal, Hard), and every 5 correct answers raise your level (up to 10) and take 0.3 seconds off, down to 1 second. After a miss the game waits for you to tap before the next book.
  • Daily: 20 books, one attempt a day. Starting it uses the day's attempt.
  • Leaderboard and quests: One board for all runs. The Daily counts for the Daily Quest Hub.

Bookle

Daily
  • How to play: One hidden book a day. Type a book name (the box suggests matches) and you have six guesses to find it.
  • Clues: Every guess gets four tiles: same testament, same section (such as the Minor Prophets), which way the answer lies in Bible order, and whether it has more or fewer chapters. Green is a match, yellow is close (within 3 books or 3 chapters), grey is neither.
  • Daily rules: One puzzle a day, numbered from Bookle #1. A new one starts at midnight on your device's clock. Practice rounds use a random book and don't count toward your streak.
  • Share: Share your result as an emoji grid of the tiles. It shows how you did without naming any book.
  • Leaderboard and quests: Bookle has no leaderboard. Playing the day's puzzle, won or lost, completes its Daily Quest Hub entry and keeps your streak going.
Play Bookle →

Book Scramble

Daily
  • How to play: Five scrambled book names a day, from a short one like Ruth up to a long one like Deuteronomy. Tap the letters into place to spell each book. A numbered book keeps its number in place.
  • Scoring: Your score is your total time, so lower is better. A hint places the next letter and adds 10 seconds. A skip shows the answer and adds 30.
  • Daily rules: One puzzle a day, numbered from Book Scramble #1. A new one starts at midnight on your device's clock. Practice rounds use five random books and don't count toward your streak.
  • Share: Share your time and a row of colours, one per book: green solved clean, yellow with a hint, red skipped. No book names are shown.
  • Leaderboard and quests: No leaderboard. Finishing the day's puzzle completes its Daily Quest Hub entry and keeps your streak going.

Verse Fill

Daily
  • How to play: One well-known King James Version verse a day, with most of its words hidden. Name the book it comes from in six guesses.
  • Clues: Every wrong guess fills in more of the verse, the rarest words last. Names such as Jonah or Jerusalem stay hidden until the end. After three misses you learn the testament, and after five the section.
  • Daily rules: One verse a day, numbered from Verse Fill #1. A new one starts at midnight on your device's clock. When you finish you see the full verse and its reference. Practice rounds use a random verse and don't count toward your streak.
  • Share: Share your score as a row of squares, one per guess: red for a miss, green for the find. The verse isn't shown.
  • Leaderboard and quests: No leaderboard. Playing the day's verse completes its Daily Quest Hub entry and keeps your streak going.

Who Was Alive?

Daily
  • How to play: Each day names one moment from the Bible story, such as the Exodus or Paul arriving in Rome, with its year on the traditional dates. Below it are eight Bible people, three or four of whom were alive then. Tap the ones you think were alive and press Check.
  • Two tries: After the first check you learn how many of the eight you have right, but not which. Fix your picks and check once more.
  • The reveal: When you finish, everyone's life shows as a bar on a small timeline with the moment marked. Each name links to that person's page on the Bible timeline. Dates follow the Ussher chronology; where the Bible gives no birth and death years, the bar is the span of the dated verses that name the person, and a name is only asked about when the answer is clear.
  • Daily rules: One board a day, numbered from Who Was Alive? #1. A new one starts at midnight on your device's clock. Practice rounds use another day's board and don't count toward your streak.
  • Share: Share your score with two rows of four squares, one per name: green right, red wrong. No names are shown.
  • Leaderboard and quests: No leaderboard. Finishing the day's board completes its Daily Quest Hub entry and keeps your streak going.

Bible Timeline

The Bible timeline is a library of the 66 books, not a game, so it has no score. It lives in the Learn section with the books of the Bible guides and printables (the 📚 Learn tab on a phone). The Library page has three layouts:

Each book has its own page showing when its story happens and the dated people it names, and there are pages for people and for the kings and prophets. Dates follow the traditional Jones/Ussher chronology, which places creation in 4004 BC. Many dates are traditional estimates rather than settled history.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bible Brain Games free to play?
Yes, 100% free! There are no paid ads, no micro-transactions, and no account registrations required.
Can I play Bible Brain Games offline?
Yes! Bible Brain Games is built as a Progressive Web App (PWA). Once you visit the site, it caches assets on your device. You can install it on your home screen and load the games without any cellular or Wi-Fi connection. Review the Install App instructions for your device.
How do I change my player username?
Click the gear icon (⚙️) in the upper-right corner of any page to open the **Settings** menu. Tap the 🔄 **Reroll** button next to your Profile Name to generate a new adjective-noun username! Your high scores will carry over to the new name on the leaderboards.
How do I toggle or adjust music and audio volume?
Open the **Settings** menu (⚙️) and use the checkboxes to toggle Music and Sound Effects (SFX) on or off. You can also drag the volume sliders to select your preferred audio balance.
How do I see the tutorial walkthrough?
The guided tour is off by default. Open the **Settings** menu (⚙️) and check **Show Tutorial Tips**: the home screen walkthrough starts right away, and each game shows its own short tour the next time you open it. Uncheck it, or tick "Don't show again" on a tour card, to turn it back off.
Why isn't my score appearing on the leaderboard?
To keep leaderboards competitive, zero scores are hidden. Make sure you complete at least one round and score points in a game to rank on the corresponding leaderboard tab.
How do I reset my progress, achievements, and stats?
All progress, streak history, settings, and high scores are saved in your local web browser. To start fresh, you can clear this website's cookies and local storage via your browser's settings panel.
When do the daily challenges reset?
At midnight on your device's clock, in your own time zone, not at a fixed worldwide time. Every game uses the same day: the Daily Quest Hub, the dailies in Testament Toss-Up, Canon or Not, Order the Books, Book Hunt and Book Number Blitz, and the Bookle, Book Scramble and Verse Fill puzzles. Players who share a date get the same challenge, so a friend in another time zone may be on the next puzzle before you. If you travel or change your device's clock, the day changes with it.
Can I replay a daily challenge?
Each daily is one attempt a day. In Testament Toss-Up, Book Number Blitz and Order the Books, starting the daily uses the attempt; in the others it counts once you finish. To keep practising, use the game's other modes: the Missed button replays the books you got wrong today, and Bookle, Book Scramble and Verse Fill have Practice rounds that don't touch your streak.
Why don't Bookle, Book Scramble and Verse Fill have a leaderboard?
They are one-puzzle-a-day games: everyone gets the same puzzle, so you compare results by sharing your emoji grid instead. They still count in the Daily Quest Hub, your daily streak, and the achievement for playing every game.
Why isn't my Book Hunt run on the leaderboard?
Shelf Sprint, Hot & Cold and Shelf Sniper each have their own board, so look under the mode you played; the Daily Hunt counts toward Shelf Sprint. Missed practice runs, which replay only the books you missed today, are never saved or posted. The same goes for Missed runs in the other games and Practice Mode in Order the Books.
Why didn't my Order the Books score save?
Campaign and Marathon scores are saved only when you finish the shelf. Running out of hearts or time ends the level without a high score or stars. Practice Mode never saves scores. The Daily Shelf keeps your score even if you don't finish it.
Will sharing my Bookle, Book Scramble or Verse Fill result spoil the answer?
No. The shared text has the puzzle number, your score and coloured squares, plus a link. It never names the book or quotes the verse, so friends can still play that day's puzzle.
Where do the timeline's dates come from?
From the open Theographic Bible Metadata project (CC BY-SA 4.0), which follows the traditional Jones/Ussher chronology. Early dates especially are traditional estimates, and other scholars date some events differently.
